Selection Guide
Front Hairline
The front hairline is where your hair system is most visible — getting it right is essential. Choose from a range of contour shapes and scallop fronts to create the most natural-looking hairline for every client.
Front Contour Shapes
True Hair offers seven front contour shapes that define the outline of the hairline. The contour you choose determines how the front edge of the base follows the natural curve of the forehead.
Standard — Most in-stock hair systems come with the Standard front contour. It is balanced and suits the majority of clients.
A — Slightly sharp with a natural recession at the temples. This is the default contour for many men's systems.
A & CC — These are popular choices for clients who want a naturally rounded or angular hairline.
C & CC — Relatively flat and round contours that suit most women.
B & BB — Sharper contours that suit men with a defined widow's peak. BB is the sharpest option available.
| Contour | Shape Description | Typically Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Balanced, suits most clients | Default for stock systems |
| A | Slightly sharp, natural recession | Men |
| AA | Softer than A | Men wanting a softer hairline |
| B | Sharper than A | Men with defined widow's peak |
| BB | Sharpest option | Strong widow's peak |
| C | Relatively flat/round | Women and men with round hairlines |
| CC | Most round/flat | Women (default for women's systems) |
Scallop Front
A scallop front means the lace or skin at the very front of the base is cut in a saw-tooth or zigzag pattern rather than a straight line. This creates an irregular, natural-looking edge that mimics how real hair grows — with subtle curves that add realism that's hard to beat.
True Hair offers six scallop options, numbered #1 (finest) through #6 (deepest). The higher the number, the more pronounced the zigzag pattern.
Important: Not Recommended for All Base Types
Scallop fronts suit most hair systems, but they are not recommended for extra-thin skin or lace fronts. The zigzag cut can cause tears in ultra-thin materials or weaken the stitching at the front edge. If you're unsure whether a scallop front is suitable for your chosen base type, our team is happy to advise.

Tips for a Natural-Looking Hairline
Beyond contour shape and scallop front, there are a few extra techniques that make the hairline even more convincing.
Bleached Knots at the Front
Bleaching the knots at the front of the base makes them virtually invisible, creating the illusion that hair is growing directly from the scalp. This is one of the most impactful upgrades for a natural-looking hairline.
Lower Density at the Hairline
A slightly lower hair density at the front edge mimics how natural hair grows — thinner at the hairline and denser further back. This subtle gradient makes the system significantly more realistic.
Consider a Slightly Higher Hairline
As clients age, a natural hairline recedes slightly. Placing the system a little higher on the forehead rather than right at the original hairline often looks more age-appropriate and convincing.
